ZACHARY’S APPLE DUMPLINGS

A dessert made with Mountain Dew? Yes, indeed! It’s super-easy and always a crowd pleaser. Try it on your brunch buffet, as well as for dessert.

Yields
16 servings
Ingredients
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 2 (8-ounce) cans refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup (11/2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 1 (12-ounce) can or bottle Mountain Dew soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon sugar
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Peel and core the apples, and cut each into 8 slices. Open the can of crescent rolls and lay out the dough. Roll 1 piece of apple in each triangle of dough, beginning with large end. Place the dumplings in a 13 x 9-inch pan with high sides. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan set over medium heat, melt the sugar and butter. Pour the butter mixture over the crescent rolls and follow with the Mountain Dew. (The recipe can be prepared ahead of time; cover and refrigerate until ready to bake.) Sprinkle dumplings with cinnamon sugar and bake until sauce is bubbling and the dough is cooked through, about 45 minutes.
